Avi A. Burkwitz – Partner
 
Mr. Burkwitz is one of the three partners at Peterson · Bradford · Burkwitz.  Mr. Burkwitz’s specialty is employment law and he is the firm’s point person when it comes to employment litigation, particularly Title VII, DFEH or common law claims.  Mr. Burkwitz also handles the firm’s labor law claims, including all wage/hour claims, including those brought before the Labor Commission.

Mr. Burkwitz graduated from California State Northridge with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1995, in History.  He obtained a Master’s in History in 1997 from San Diego State University.  Mr. Burkwitz then attended law school at Southwestern School of Law in 1998.  At Southwestern, Mr. Burkwitz made the Dean’s List each of the three years he attended, was a member of Law Review for two years, and ultimately graduated in the Top 10 percent of his class.

Mr. Burkwitz started his legal career at the law offices of Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols in 2001, focusing on litigating medical malpractice and personal injury claims.  In 2004, Mr. Burkwitz joined Peterson & Bradford. 

Since that time, Mr. Burkwitz has focused his skills on litigating employment-related suits, both on behalf of the defense (employer) and the plaintiff (employee), for public entities and private parties.

Mr. Burkwitz was made partner in January 2009.  Since that time, Mr. Burkwitz has successfully defended cases through trial and scored numerous summary judgments on behalf of the defense, settled multiple plaintiff cases in the six-figure range, and has continued to develop his skills as a labor/employment litigator.  Mr. Burkwitz also has trial experience, having first and second chaired several trials.
