Thomas R. Bradford – Founding Partner

Tom Bradford has been practicing a broad range of law since 1982.  As a trial attorney, he has consistently distinguished himself in court room advocacy, successfully representing hundreds of clients from many disciplines and industries throughout Southern and Central California.

With attorney George Peterson, Mr. Bradford founded what is now Peterson · Bradford · Burkwitz in 2004. Today, Mr. Bradford concentrates on defense of tort liability with special emphasis on hospital, medical, dental and products liability, and government tort claims, and police and corrections misconduct.

He is also involved with matters associated with licensing boards, peer reviews, medical staffs, billing audits, and health care law.  And, as a former foster parent, Mr. Bradford dedicates considerable time heading the firm’s pro bono child advocacy program, which centers on adoption and foster care.

A major part of Mr. Bradford’s practice deals with administrative hearings and defending hospitals, medical/dental centers, doctors and dentists against disciplinary and licensing actions instituted by the Medical Board of California and the California Board of Dental Examiners.  His record of successful, economic resolution of disputed claims in highly sensitive and, often, emotionally charged cases has made him a leader in this field and one of Southern California’s preeminent legal counsels for administrative matters.

Prior to his career in law, Mr. Bradford spent nearly 10 years in the health care field, working in administrative and executive management capacities in major medical facilities, including The Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Encino Hospital, Beverly Hills Medical Center, and Los Altos Hospital.

Mr. Bradford is a 1972 graduate of Villanova University with bachelor degrees in both Biology and Humanities.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration in 1975 from George Washington University and received his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1982.

Mr. Bradford is an admitted member of the California State Bar Association and is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court, and United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.  He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a State Bar Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate, and a Litigation Professional in Corrections and Police Litigation through the Law Enforcement Legal Center of Americans for Effective Law Enforcement.

With Mr. Bradford’s vast legal and medical field experience, he brings a unique perspective and understanding to his clients.  He also regularly shares his knowledge through seminars, panels, and other presentations geared toward hospital administrators, health care associations, volunteer agencies, universities, risk managers, and other professional organizations.
