Thomas R. Bradford – Founding Partner
 
Thomas R. Bradford has been practicing a broad range of law since 1985.  As a trial attorney, he has distinguished himself in courtroom advocacy, successfully representing hundreds of clients from many disciplines and industries throughout Southern and Central California.  He is a vetted member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Civil Trial Advocacy. With attorney George E. Peterson, Mr. Bradford founded what is now Peterson · Bradford · Burkwitz in 2004.  Today, Mr. Bradford concentrates on defense of tort liability with special emphasis on hospital, medical, dental and products liability, government tort claims, and police and corrections misconduct.

Mr. Bradford also provides counsel for other attorneys charged with legal malpractice.  He also represents other lawyers during State Bar disciplinary proceedings.

Mr. Bradford is also involved in matters associated with licensing boards, peer reviews, medical staffs, billing audits, and health care law.  Additionally, as a former foster parent, Mr. Bradford dedicates a considerable amount of time heading the firm’s pro bono child advocacy program, which centers on adoption and foster care.

A major part of Mr. Bradford’s practice deals with administrative hearings and defending hospitals, medical/dental centers, doctors and dentists against disciplinary and licensing actions instituted by the Medical Board of California and the California Board of Dental Examiners.  His record of successful, economic resolution of disputed claims in highly sensitive, and often, emotionally charged cases has made him a leader in this field as well as one of Southern California’s preeminent legal counsels for administrative matters.

Prior to his career in law, Mr. Bradford spent nearly 10 years in the health care field, working in administrative and executive management capacities in well-known medical facilities, which include: The Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Encino Hospital, Beverly Hills Medical Center, and Los Altos Hospital.

Mr. Bradford graduated from Villanova University in 1972 with dual bachelor degrees in Biology and Humanities.  He earned his Master of Arts Degree in Health Care Administration in 1975 from George Washington University.  In 1982, he received his Juris Doctor Degree from Southwestern University School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1983.

Mr. Bradford is also licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court, and United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.  He is also a Litigation Professional in Corrections and Police Litigation through the Law Enforcement Legal Center of Americans for Effective Law Enforcement.

With Mr. Bradford’s vast legal and medical field experience, he brings a unique perspective and understanding to his clients.  He also regularly shares his knowledge through seminars, panels, and other presentations geared toward hospital administrators, health care associations, volunteer agencies, universities, risk managers, and other professional organizations.
